There is no doubt that we learn a lot of important things in school. But, at no point does our education system teach us about the power of our mind. At no point does anyone tell us that what we think, feel, say and do in each moment of our life actually creates our physical reality.
It was a hot and sunny day in Cuba when I first started reading a book that changed my life forever. A friend of mine gave it to me and said “read this while you’re away, I think you’ll really like it.” It wasn’t the most compact book to be traveling with, but she caught me on my way to the airport so I thanked her, threw it into my carry on and left. I had no idea what the book was about so when I began reading I had no expectations. Page after page, this book was teaching me about the power of my mind. I was bewildered. It was something that no one had ever taught me about before. It opened my eyes to the fact that our mind is an extremely powerful tool that is able to create almost anything we give our attention to; and that it’s not the outside world that delivers us happiness, it is our inside world that does.
I found the information fascinating so when I returned home I continued to read book after book that talked about the power of the mind. And with every book I finished, I would think to myself, why didn’t I learn about this sooner? It’s with this thought that Do Your Dreamwork came to be.
As I learned, little by little I began to design my life the way I wanted it and I became more and more insistent on wanting to bring this knowledge to the younger generation. Had this information come to me sooner, my gosh the things I could have done! I was seeing first-hand how easy it was to create what I wanted in life and I felt ripped off that I didn’t learn how to do it sooner. So, I decided to become the messenger. I took all the stuff I learnt in all those books and designed this handy workbook that you are holding so that anyone of any age can read it and learn about how to make dreams come true.
We are all equipped with the tools to create our dream life, but these tools do us no good if we don’t know how to use them. Do Your Dreamwork is written for this sole purpose - to teach you how to use these tools to your benefit. Becoming more familiar with your thoughts, feelings, words and actions is all you need to do to start using the power of your mind. There is a definite formula to making your dreams come true. Read on and you will learn to:
As you read along you’ll begin to understand that life is not a place where things happen by coincidence, or a place where we are all victims of circumstance. The truth is that we are all powerful human beings with the ability to create our world as we desire it.
In order to fully grasp why this formula works, you have to get comfortable with some principles that exist in our universe. We’ll talk a little bit about Universal Laws and the role they play in our lives, and we’ll chat about quantum physics and what it tells us about our universe. Some of these concepts may seem hard to believe at first, so having an open mind as you read is really important. There are going to be times when my words are going to challenge your thoughts and beliefs. Remember this:
We often convince ourselves that our own limitations of understanding are the proper measure of limitations and that if it doesn’t make sense to us then it can’t possibly be true. But, this is not so.
There are plenty of things that most of us don’t fully understand but that we accept as true. For example, electricity. I can’t necessarily see how electricity works, but I believe it to be so because I see it working in my life everyday when I turn on a light or use my toaster. It’s the same with Dreamwork. I will be talking about that invisible energy that exists around us and within us that connects everyone and everything. If you give it a chance to prove its existence in your life, it will. I ask that you trust in the power of the information you are receiving and let it prove itself as you implement these new principles into your life. If you don’t understand something, don’t worry, just keep reading. By the end of the book it will all make sense to you and you’ll have a new understanding of the role you play in this universe and feel empowered by it.
Describing how the power of the mind works is kind of like painting a picture. It starts off with part of an image that isn’t quite recognizable at first, but as the paint fills the canvas the image becomes very clear and easily recognizable. As you move through the chapters of this book I ask that you fill your mind with this new information that may be unrecognizable to you at first and trust that at the end of it all the message will be crystal clear. Be honest with yourself as you move through the chapters and remember to keep an open mind and open spirit as you go.
I believe the most appropriate place to start is to learn about the Laws of the Universe. After all, we are all human beings made up of energy, and energy is governed by Universal Laws.
Let the journey begin.
Universal Laws describe the nature of the universe and how it works. They are based on the understanding that everything in our universe is made up of energy, including us. When we talk about universal laws we aren’t talking about the same kind of laws that exist to control traffic or the behaviour of people.
Universal Laws are forever and exist everywhere.
And, although there is no one who says you must adhere to them, these laws exist whether you choose to believe they do or not, and they influence your life whether you recognize it or not. By understanding these laws, you begin to work as an attractor and creator of all the things that come to you and this allows you to take deliberate control of your life.
The first thing to recognize is that your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions are all forms of energy that move in a cyclical fashion. So, literally what you think, feel, say and do will go around and then come back around to create your life experience. What’s great about this is that it means you have the power to create whatever experience you desire, and you do this by first learning to abide by the Laws of the Universe. There are a number of Universal Laws that exist. We’ll be talking about the laws that are most important when it comes to your Dreamwork:
The Law of Attraction
The Law of Deliberate Creation
The Law of Cause and Effect
The Law of Giving and Receiving
The Law of Gratitude
The Law of Forgiveness
THE LAW OF ATTRACTION
The most powerful law in our universe is the Law of Attraction. This universal law states that:
Like attracts like. What you focus on is what you attract.
Have your ever noticed that when you wake up in a good mood you have a happier day than when you wake up grumpy? Have you noticed that when bad things start to happen in your life and you put all your focus on them it seems that everything starts to go wrong? But when good things start to happen to you and you focus on that, more happiness comes into your life? This is the Law of Attraction at work. It revolves around the notion that where you focus your energy is where you will find yourself. Focusing on things that make you miserable, brings more misery into your life. But, focusing on things that make you happy, brings more happiness into your life.
When you think pleasant thoughts, by law of attraction other thoughts that are similarly pleasant will come forward. The same thing goes for unpleasant thoughts. So, if you feel lonely, you attract more loneliness. If you feel poor, you attract more poverty. If you feel sick, you attract more sickness.
Picture your thoughts as magnets that are attracting similar thoughts to themselves. As your thoughts attract these “like” thoughts they gain momentum and power because they build energy. Before you experience something in your physical life, you first have to give it thought. Your thought is the invitation and without it, it will not come to you.
By knowing how the Law of Attraction works you can begin to focus your thoughts in the direction of what you want to create in your life and take away any attention you’re giving to thoughts of things that you don’t want to create into your life. What you focus on is what you will create in your life, by Universal Law.
THE LAW OF DELIBERATE CREATION
Building upon the Law of Attraction is the Law of Deliberate Creation. This universal law states that: You attract what you give thought to, and you attract more quickly the thoughts that you back with emotion. Once your thought has been launched, you must expect it to come to you, and only then can you receive it.
This law teaches us that our thought process should have three parts. The first part is the actual thought itself. The second part is the use of emotion - if you support the thought with emotion, the result comes to you more quickly. The third part is your expectation - or faith - that it will come to be. Thoughts, backed with emotion and faith is what puts you in the perfect position to receive the subject of your thoughts. If you’re thinking about becoming a pilot without expecting or having faith that it will happen, you’re ultimately blocking that thought from becoming a physical reality in your life.
Without all three parts working together, you cannot physically receive what you wish for. You must have the thought, then the burning desire to get it (emotion), and then expect (faith) that it will come your way. In the next chapter we will talk more about faith because for most people it is the most challenging part of their Dreamwork.
THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT
Every scientific and spiritual teacher has strived to teach this law to the world. It states that: Nothing happens by chance or outside Universal Laws because our entire existence is one. Every action has a reaction or consequence.
The saying “what you do unto others is what you do unto yourself” perfectly explains this law. As I mentioned before, energy moves in a cyclical motion, so whatever energy you give out will come back to you, and this law guarantees it. There is no such thing as good luck or bad luck, there is cause and there is effect. Every action was caused by something before it, and will cause something after it.
Your thought is the cause, the physical outcome is the effect.
So, to change something you must change the cause - your thoughts. Trying to change the effect is like replacing a broken mirror and thinking that the your reflection in the new mirror is going to be different than before. This law is saying that you can create the experiences you wish for in life by creating the appropriate thoughts. For example, if you want to have a house on the beach then think about having one, rather than about NOT having one. The appropriate thought (the cause) will lead to the desired outcome (the effect.) Most of us think a lot about what we don’t have and, therefore, continue to NOT have it!
THE LAW OF GIVING AND RECEIVING
The Law of Giving and Receiving holds true for individuals, organizations, businesses and nations. This Universal Law states that: If you wish to receive anything in your life, you first need to give it.
Giving is the other side of receiving.
If you withhold your giving capacity and believe that you don’t have anything to give, then you’re stopping the flow of your own energy and the things you wish for can’t come to you. We all have something to give. Just give what you already have - time, money, smiles, compliments, a helping hand…and you will get back what you don’t have and what you are wishing for. The extent to which you give and help others to build their dreams is the extent to which you will build your dreams.
The crucial part about this law is that you must give and expect nothing in return. The law guarantees it will come back to you, but if your frame of mind is set in selfishness and greed and you are only giving in order to receive, you will block the flow of energy again. The reward comes when you give from your heart with no conditions attached. You must give for the sake of giving and only then does the energy flow back to you in the form of something that you desire. Never ask or expect pay back from those you give to. The reward will come to you, but not necessarily from the person you gave to. The universe will make sure your reward is granted from a source and in a form that is best suited to you.
Giving should be joyful, like a child drawing a picture for mom and dad. The child expects nothing in return, it was done out of love. Whatever you wish to get, give it away first. By law, this is the fastest path to getting it for yourself.
THE LAW OF GRATITUDE
This Universal Law is an extension of the Law of Cause and Effect and states that: Gratitude is the first step to receiving and experiencing. Due to the Law of Cause and Effect, a grateful mind is constantly fixed upon the best, therefore it will receive the best.
We all know what it means to be grateful for something or someone. What you may not know is that gratitude plays a big part in turning your dreams into physical reality. Gratitude is important because when you are grateful for what you have, you open a channel for more good fortune to come. Feeling grateful makes you feel positive and offers a sense of comfort. Appreciating what you have is a short cut to manifesting your dreams because this feeling puts you into the flow of life at top speed where your positive thoughts draw positive situations and positive people into your life making your dreams come true at a rapid pace. Remember, like attracts like. Stay focused on what is good in your life and in the world, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to be. This will propel you with a positive force that helps you build your dreams more quickly.
When you are genuinely grateful, anger disappears because it’s impossible to feel both the positive emotion of thankfulness and the negative emotion of anger at the same time. We all have something to be grateful for, even the simplest of things, like a hot shower or the shoes on our feet. Choosing to be grateful has only positive side effects so make gratitude a part of your everyday life. Try starting and ending your day thanking the universe for what you have. Good things come to those who are grateful.
THE LAW OF FORGIVENESS
The word ʻforgiveʼ means to pardon; to wipe the slate clean. Simply put, this law states that:
In order to grow in life we need to release painful events from the past.
Forgiveness is an act of love, mercy and grace. It helps you release negative energy and make room for positive energy to come your way. Lack of forgiveness can block your dreams from coming true. Here’s why - if you carry negative feelings of anger, hate or resentment you are stunting your own growth in life. If you don’t practice forgiveness of others and yourself you build a dam of negative energy that stops good things from coming into your life. Not only that, but that same negative energy keeps you stuck in the past. It’s impossible to live life without getting hurt, betrayed, rejected, and lied to sometimes. Learning how to respond properly when these things happen makes all the difference in the world.
When it comes to forgiving others, forgiveness should be granted regardless of whether or not you feel the person deserves to be forgiven. It doesn’t mean that the person who hurt you was correct in their actions, and it doesn’t mean that you are keeping the same relationship with that person. The person doesn’t even need to know you’ve forgiven them. Forgiveness is something you do for yourself so that you can break negative bonds in your life and keep moving forward. This is also true when it comes to forgiving yourself. Forgive yourself for past regrets. By forgiving yourself for things you wish you didn’t say or do, you sever the bond that allows you to hang on to the past.
Practice forgiveness for yourself. Forgiveness is freeing.
Well, there you have it. I know that was a lot of information to take in right at the start. But, as we move through the chapters I’ll be describing each one of these laws in more detail and showing you how to implement them into your life quickly and easily. This chapter is just the introduction on the nature of our universe and how it works with us and through us. Knowing the role these laws play in our life allows you to begin believing in them and abiding by them - and that is the first step to building your dream life. Don’t fall into the trap of believing that life is random and that we are all at the mercy of the circumstances that present themselves to us. The actual truth is that we are mostly the creators of those circumstances. Let’s start to make them the way we desire them to be and let’s start now.
Next up, we’ll talk more about the Law of Attraction and the Law of Deliberate Creation and look at how our thoughts are the beginning of everything we create in our life.
Everything in life begins with a thought.
Chapter will be posted soon. Stay tuned!
